Another holiday, another opportunity to learn about France.
For example, you might ask yourself…..”If St. Valentine was a male, then why do the French say “Joyeuse” (a feminine word) instead of “Joyeux” (a masculine word)?
Aha!
As it turns out, since the word for holiday/celebration is “fête” and a feminine word, that makes saying “Happy Saint Valentine’s Day” feminine!
In addition, notice how in French, the “E” is dropped from the end of Valentine, making the French pronunciation (VAL-UHN-TAWN).
